Conserving habitat
Less than one percent of Canada's oceans are protected. WWF is working with scientists, government and industry leaders to identify the most important habitats and design conservation plans that protect marine life, while allowing sustainable use of our oceans.
Flexible Zoning Plans
We’ll create flexible zoning plans that designate different types of protected areas in Canada’s oceans and adjacent international waters. These zones will allow economic development but provide refuge for vulnerable species, such as corals and sponges. They’ll also prevent damage to habitats, encourage reproduction in fish populations, such as Atlantic cod, and help oceans recover.Oceans Blog Posts
