Toronto (June 4, 2013) – WWF-Canada announced today that David Miller will become President and Chief Executive Officer effective September 3rd.

Throughout his professional career as both a lawyer and a public servant, David has demonstrated passion, sustained commitment and leadership in conservation. As Mayor of the City of Toronto from 2003 to 2010, David introduced and led a comprehensive program of greenhouse gas reduction that became a blueprint for other cities around the world. He brought Earth Hour and a satellite event for Live Earth to Toronto and he championed such environmental initiatives as greater investment in cycling infrastructure, public transit, reducing threats to migratory birds and protection of the Toronto waterfront. He also served as chair of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, an organization that brings together 40 of the world’s largest cities to address climate risks through urban initiatives.

Since leaving the Mayor’s office, David has remained an important voice for nature and conservation. He continued to provide advice and inspiration on sustainability issues to a broad range of clients in his role as Counsel for International Business and Sustainability at Aird & Berlis LLP.

David has an AB (honours economics) from Harvard University and an LLB from the University of Toronto. He spent the earlier years of his career practicing law at Aird & Berlis LLP before becoming a city of Toronto councillor.

As Chief Executive Officer and President, David joins a talented, skilled and passionate national team located in nine offices across Canada. He will be responsible for overseeing WWF-Canada's staff of more than100 employees, and inspiring strong relations with over 150,000 WWF supporters and volunteers.

David will formally assume the duties of President and CEO on September 3rd and will map out a plan for that transition over the summer.

“David comes to WWF with a strong track record on conservation issues. He is a leader who can bring together diverse stakeholders around a common vision for solutions to complex issues,” said Roger Dickhout, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WWF-Canada. “David is a terrific addition to the WWF team who will help us achieve our ambitious conservation objectives.”

“I am delighted to join WWF Canada.” said David. “WWF is an organization with strong values that seeks solutions to our most pressing environmental challenges. It's science-based, principled, and has an enviable track record of building innovative partnerships to create those solutions.”
