Bettina Saier
Bettina Saier is a marine biologist with over 10 years of experience in Atlantic ecosystems research and conservation.
Bettina holds an MSc (University of Freiburg, Germany & St Andrews, Scotland) and a PhD (University of Hamburg). After working as a research fellow at Dalhousie University in Halifax and for Greenpeace International in Amsterdam, she joined WWF in 2008 to work on a transatlantic project dealing with cod recovery and sustainable fisheries. In July 2009 Bettina became the Oceans director of WWF-Canada.
Bettina lives in Nova Scotia in a small former fishing village, but periodically needs to water her roots in Europe. Her passion for wildlife led her to explore the Serengeti, track Rwandan mountain gorillas and plunge into the unspoiled reef waters off Palau. It was there that she found true inspiration for a career in conservation.
